The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State, has launched a Car Wash business centre to help boost the Varsity’s finances.
Sunday Tribune gathered that the business centre is sponsored by the School Faculty of Management Sciences and some individual donors.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, held at the School premises, on Friday, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Charles Esimone, said the establishment would boost the schools’ finances and to also help students apprenticeship as a way of acquiring business knowledge after graduation.
He said the project was in line with his Vission 2000 projects for the university.
Esimone, while expressing gratitude to the Dean, Faculty of Management, Professor Oby Orogbu, the students and those who contributed to the success of the establishment, explained that building sustainable businesses that would last beyond their founders should be a concern to all.
The Dean of the Faculty, Professor Oby Orogbu, in her opening remarks, said the facility would help to train students who are interested in the car wash business, after graduation and also provide the university, a serene environment for academic excellence.
She said the car wash centre and over N100 million state-of-the-art building complex which will house the ultramodern facilities with 60 offices inaugurated also, were achieved through the efforts of the alumni of the faculty from the fundraising ceremony chaired by the CEO of Air Peace, Allen Onyema.
She called on the staff and students of the Institution to patronise the facilities.
In a related development, IntelliDigest Africa Limited in partnership with the Faculty of Agriculture, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, has reiterated its commitment to fight against food waste across the South-East states.
The Business Development Executive of IntelliDigest Limited, Comrade Ezenwafor Odera, disclosed this in a visual press conference to flag off awareness campaign on the Global Food Loss and Waste Tracker in Africa, held at Awka Widows on America Office, Awka, on Friday.
The conference had in attendance, the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Charles Esimone, represented by the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Professor Nkeiru Meludo, Dr Ifenyiwa Kanu (USA), community leaders, market leaders, Students, representatives of government agencies and key Agricultural players in the sector.
Comrade Odera, also disclosed that the walking march was across the states of Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi to sensitise residents on the danger of wasting food at this period where Nigerian farmers are currently facing challenges of herdsmen, banditry, Kidnapping, Boko Haram and gunmen attacks.
He said if the ideas were fully incorporated in Nigeria, it would create job 10,000 unemployed.
The Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Professor Nkeiru Melodu, while commending the initiatives, noted that the programme would help families, especially, the poor ones in the society to understand why food should not be wasted.
She assures IntelliDigest Limited of the University readiness to partner with them to achieved the set goal.
